Running head: FAMILY HEALTH ASSESSMENT Family Health Assessment Thresiamma John Grand Canyon University Family-Centered Health Promotion NRS-429V Stout, Kimberly March 11 2012 Family Health Assessment Introduction A comprehensive family assessment provides a foundation to promote family health (Edelman Mandle, 2011). 1987 Marjorie Gordon purposed 11 functional health patterns to use for guidance in order to facilitate nurses to have a frame work for the family assessment in. Gordonââ¬â¢s 11 functional health patterns help organizes basic family assessment information. This standardized format will guide nurses to complete the family assessment using system approaches, which will identify a patientââ¬â¢sâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The sexuality and reproductive assessment helps describes sexual fulfillment, sexual perception, and sexual self ââ¬âconcepts. (Edelman Mandel, 2011). This assessment is focused on the satisfaction of oneââ¬â¢s sexual life, and the changes that take place throughout a lifespan. Another pattern is the coping-stress tolerance pattern. This focuses on the familyââ¬â¢s adaption to internal and external pressures related to their health, environment, a nd social status and how they cope with these pressures in their day to day lives. Finally, the last pattern is the values and belief pattern. Values and beliefs vary in different cultures. Therefore, the focus of this pattern is oneââ¬â¢s attitude regarding the meaning of life, spirituality, and how these attitudes affect the family related health problems. (Edelman Mandle, 2011). Mathewââ¬â¢s Family Health Assessment An appointment was made with this family prior to the visit scheduled and the purpose of the visit and the role of this student nurse in health promotion and disease prevention through stages of family development was explained as an introduction part. The entire family was invited to participate in the discussion. The family was made aware of HIPPA violation and the responsibility of the nurse to keep all information shared confidential.
